Island Hopping from Panglao: Balicasag, Virgin Island & More

Island hopping is Panglao's signature activity. Most tours depart between 8–9 AM from the beach or a nearby port and return by early afternoon. The standard route combines two or three islands, with snorkeling, swimming, and a sandbar stop.

Balicasag Island

A marine sanctuary with some of the Philippines' best coral walls. You'll see sea turtles, schools of jackfish, and vivid coral gardens. Snorkeling costs ₱300–500 with a local guide (mandatory), and diving is available through certified operators. The island has a small beach for resting between dives.

Virgin Island (Pungtud Island)

A sandbar that emerges at low tide, creating shallow turquoise water that looks like a travel ad. It's best visited at low to mid tide — arrive at high tide and there's no sand to stand on. Fresh sea urchin (uni) is often available from local vendors in the water.

Pamilacan Island

Less touristy than Balicasag, Pamilacan is known for dolphin and whale-watching (best February–May). The snorkeling is also excellent. Tours here are usually combined with an early morning dolphin-watching departure.

Costs

Boat hire: ₱2,500–4,000 for a private bangka (fits 4–6 people). Environmental fees: ₱100–250 per person per island. Snorkel rental: ₱150. Total cost for 2 people is roughly ₱2,000–2,500 each with everything included.

What to Bring

Reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof pouch, snorkeling gear (or rent on the boat), cash for fees and vendors, a rash guard, and water. Most boats have a shade canopy but limited seating comfort.

Pro Tips

Book through your villa host — Aman Sinaya arranges island hopping with trusted local operators, which avoids the inflated prices and variable quality of beachfront touts. Start early (8 AM departure) to beat the midday crowds at Balicasag, then return to your own pool for the afternoon.
